Lichens are unusual composite organisms that exist only through the symbiotic partnership between fungi and alga or cyanobacteria. Taking my cue from this collaborative gestalt, these projects require public participation on multiple levels to grow and thrive.
Urban Colonization is a series of site specific installations featuring 12 artificial lichen colonies made of meticulously cut photographs hidden at 4 partner locations.
Collaborative work with Lichenologist Sheila Strawn, PhD continues as we move forward with a Field Guide for Oklahoma Lichens.
50 diverse lichens from Symbiotic Cooperation were donated to the University of Central Oklahoma's Herbarium. There are still 25 specimens awaiting proper identification and donation. biology.uco.edu/uconhm/herbarium.html
